The Hippie-Green Beetle

Paintings of an Abstract Nature

The 'Me' - John H. Fleming

I have lived in Guelph, Ontario for the past 10 years with my wife and our entourage of house pets.  I grew up with limitless space to roam on a farm in Grey County and now find myself sandwiched like a sardine in 'the burbs'. Finding the landscape of cookie-cutter houses less than inspiring, I hit the road and adventure beyond the city limits.  Yes, sometimes I even go down trails that are unpaved all by myself and without a cell phone - really pushing the limits, living dangerously, 'on the edge' some might say.  These little adventures into the rugged outback of Southern Ontario are my escape into the natural space in which I grew up and find myself most comfortable.  I sketch from memory, the things that caught my eye.  This fantastic memory of mine distorts, exagerates and even eliminates reality (wife nods, yes) and I am left with the images that grace the canvas.  Working at a breakneck speed of 3 paintings a year for most of my adult life, it is just recently that I have been struck by an absolute 'need' to paint, and a lot!!  Now, I share them with you - please have an opinion, any opinion (my pets say very little about my art).
